A Typical day at Meadows Montessori

Prepared Environment

The early childhood classroom at the Meadows Montessori has a customized environment crafted to your child’s unique abilities, interests, and learning styles. In this prepared classroom, children work with specially designed manipulative materials that invite exploration and engage the senses in the process of learning.

The general atmosphere at the Meadows Montessori is more like a home than a school.  You’ll see children happily working individually or in small groups, at tables or on the floor near small mats that delineate their own space. Specially designed learning materials are displayed on open shelves, easily accessible to children.  Child-sized furniture, cozy spaces for quiet reading, reachable shelves with work available for their free choice.

Work Cycle

At Meadows Montessori children choose their work at their own interest and ability level.  This child-directed engagement help self-motivation, supports attention and encourages responsibility. Uninterrupted periods of work time around 2hrs in length allow children to work at their own pace. This help them fully immerse themselves in an activity without interruption. A typical child’s work cycle involves selecting an activity, performing it for as long as it remains interesting, cleaning up and returning the materials to the shelf, and making another work choice.  This cycle respects individual variations in the learning process. Montessori education recognizes that children learn in different ways and accommodates all learning styles. Students learn at their own pace, have individualized learning plans and teachers to guide them.

Classroom Arrangement and Work Ethics

Teachers gently guide students to help maintain the organization and cleanliness of classroom environment to keep it orderly and attractive. This will make your child understand how to care for materials and clean up after themselves, a precious set of skills and practices that you would love to see them bring home.
